r-LightBioCom at the 17th ETP’s Annual European Textile Conference and General Assembly and CITEVE´s iTechStyle Summit in Porto, Portugal

r-LightBioCom at ITS+ETP

The project’s coordinator AITEX presented r-LightBioCom at the 17th ETP’s Annual European Textile Conference and General Assembly and CITEVE´s iTechStyle Summit jointly organized by the ETP[1] and CITEVE[2]. Taking place from 10th to 12th May in Porto, Portugal, the event brought together industry leaders, experts, and academia to explore the latest trends, strategies, opportunities, and challenges in the textile sector.

The conference and summit featured discussions on Green and Digital Transition, Smart Local Production and High-performance Materials for future products. Erik Macias from AITEX introduced the r-LightBioCom project in the panel session Performance Materials for Future Products explaining, among others, its main objective: to reduce the environmental impact of the project’s newly developed lightweight high-performance composites, not only during their manufacture, but also during their lifetime and at the end of their useful life, due to their inherent recyclability properties obtained through improved mechanical properties, weight reduction and new functionalities.

All in all, it was a great opportunity for creating awareness for the r-LightBioCom project and for getting insights in the latest developments about smart textiles and high-performance materials: a total of 38 posters were on display featuring the latest developments in raw material manufacturing and production, bio-based materials, high-performance composites, circular economy and sustainability; over 600 participants from 18 countries engaged in discussions, and 54 speakers presented new and innovative research projects in the respective fields.
