r-LightBioCom: Driving Sustainable Innovation in European Industries – Insights from #ED10 Ecosistema Innovador I+D+I

On October 23, EU Project r-LightBioCom technical manager Eduardo Fages Santana, Head of the Sustainability and Material Technologies Research and Development Group at our technical coordinator AITEX, participated at the #ED10: Ecosistema Innovador I+D+I.

In the event, streamed live on YouTube, experts from the sector shared their knowledge on business digitization, the latest technological tools and success stories in the implementation of research, development and innovation in various industries.

Organised by Colegio Oficial de Ingenieros Industriales Comunitat Valenciana — the official college of industrial engineers of the Valencian community — the event also featured presentations from Paqui Aran Ais of INESCOP and David Monllor Jimenez of AIJU.

Eduardo offered valuable insights into the sustainability challenges European industries are facing, with a specific focus on textiles becoming more environmentally friendly, which also involves recovering materials, enhancing product value, and designing for durability.

As another prime example of this at the European level, Eduardo introduced r-LightBioCom, which he presented as a decisive step towards the integration of sustainable raw materials with a focus on ecological and recycled resources.

“We are developing solutions, from products for the automotive sector to materials for the construction sector and also for the aeronautics sector. Each and every one of these solutions must also consider aspects related to the implementation of sustainable raw materials of both biological and recycled origin. This is where AITEX has been working on what would be the development of honeycomb structures, based on the implementation of a fabric that can be used in the construction sector,” explained Eduardo.

Moreover, Eduardo mentioned that this development has been patented by AITEX at the European level and also extended to third countries because it is a technology with a very interesting scope of application and one that is different from other commercial solutions.
